Sources Of Stuff Landscaping: St Lawrence Nurseries in
Potsdam, NY (mail-order baby trees and shrubs) Screws & Fasteners: McKitterick Industrial Supply, Lowell. They have **everything**. On Fletcher,
just off of 3A near the South East Asian Restaurant. Hours are lousy.
The more I drive around the industrial back alleys of the Merrimack valley,
the more cool stuff I find... Metric Screw & Tool Company, 9 Lake St., Wakefield. Because "**everything**"
doesn't include double-fine M10 locknuts. But pricey. Don't forget Stuart Fastener, on Prospect St. (between Somerville & Cambridge, somewhere around the intersection with Hampshire st.) if you're stuck in the city. Pricey but good. /lcs Hardware: Raybern Specialty Hardware in
Teele Sq, Somerville. I designed their website. Ken Brueggemann, the owner,
is a nice fellow. Their showroom is quite impressive, and if you ask they'll
pull out the vendor catalogs. Tools: Tools catalog online: www.harborfreight.com Tools, hardware, industrial supplies: H.D. Chasen, 40 Lake St., Somerville 617-666-9090 --Larry Lumber: The Engineered Wood Association New England Wholesale Hardwoods, at www.floorings.com. I designed their website. --Liz The Wood Cellar, Ltd., of Savannah, Georgia, will ship anywhere (800/795-9114, www.woodcellar.com) Call the Southern Cypress Manufacturers Association at 412/ 829-0770 for more dealer information. Lynn Lumber (on Commercial Street in Lynn, just off the Lynnway) has a bunch of Victorian-style moldings. They do have a few other hard-to-find items for older houses, and I've found the people who work there to be fairly knowledgeable and helpful. Their phone number is (781) 592-0400. --Jeff Victorian goodies: Worth checking out -- http://www.vintagewoodworks.com --Larry, who got a porch design manual and some goo-gaws there. Heating: Order your own chimney caps, Volko seems to have good prices, also Absco. We were quoted an additional $100 -plus to get one installed, when all they do is glue it on with construction adhesive. We'll probably make our own. http://www.snorkel.com : wood-fired
hot tubs... --vicka Plumbing: Water Heaters: TriangleTube Water Heaters. My plumber (Winters Plumbing and Heating, Belmont) uses water heaters
from some outfit which sells directly to contractors. "A.O. Smith" Murray's Plumbing Supply in Medford is a "purveyor to the trade". There's also Metropolitan Pipe right in East Cambridge, not sure if they have water heaters... The Gas company sells water heaters too. *Don't* get a Rheem direct-vent unit unless Phil has time to design a
better controller for it. |
